Make Sure You Are Using Your Furnace Efficiently This Winter.

Here are some ways you can make sure your furnace is working efficiently:
Look at upgrading the insulation in your home and weatherproofing: Do you know if your home is properly insulated and sealed? If not, this could be the main cause. Have a contractor provide a home energy audit. The gas or electric company may be able to do this for you as well. Once you have the results, then you’re able to improve areas that need it.
Upgrade that old thermostat to a programmable thermostat: When you upgrade your basic thermostat to a programmable type, you can save energy by lowering your settings by 3-4 degrees when you are away or sleeping. Digital thermostats will be more accurate than the old mercury type thermostats. Keep in mind that some heating systems won’t be compatible with some models. Have you ever thought about a zone control system for your home: With zone control, you can heat only certain rooms of the home rather than heating the entire house. Zone control can be accomplished by retrofitting your current forced air system.
